Although it may seem crazy to create delta-8, it is already created by nature and right there in the cannabis plants.
But here’s the thing. It’s impossible to afford to use the small amount of D8 found in cannabis. To get enough delta-8, you would need to grow so many cannabis plants. This is not economically feasible from an agricultural or business perspective.
It’s easy to mass-produce large quantities of D8 in a laboratory or processing plant. You can make delta-8-THC from the plants that growers have available. The amount of delta-8 that humans can extract from every cannabis plant is much higher than what nature can produce.
Why make D8 from Hemp-Derived CBD?
The 2018 Farm Bill makes it federally legal to grow industrial hemp and its derivatives, such as CBD. They must contain less than 0.3% THC. This means that hemp-derived CBD and hemp-derived hemp are readily available, inexpensive, and legal to sell to eager buyers.
As such, the infrastructure for cultivating, transporting, transforming, and marketing hemp and CBD oil products continues to grow and solidify.
CBD is a Delta-8 THC Process
All cannabinoids begin as cannabigerol acids (CBGA) in the beginning. The CBGA molecules are transformed into cannabinoids as the cannabis plant grows. Nature-made delta-8 THC is also formed when delta-9 THC degrades over time.

Making Delta-8 in the Lab
There are several ways to convert the chemical structure of CBD into D8. This is the most popular because it is simple, fast, easy to use readily available materials, and cost-effective.
How CBD oil is made
Dissolve CBD. Combine the CBD extract with a solvent to separate its components.
Add an acid. The solution is heated for at least 18 hours before being mixed. This creates a chemical reaction that rearranges molecules to make a substance that has both delta-8 and beta-9.
Neutralize acid.
Wash it. Remove any trace of solvent or acid used in chemical reactions.
Dissolve the new substance. Next, isolate the D8 or D9.
The final distillate is mainly delta-8 (60 to 70%), but it also contains approximately 2-6% delta-9 THC. The distillate will be refined to reach the D8/D9 levels, e.g. to meet legal THC limits.
The final delta-8-THC sample is analyzed to confirm or determine the number of cannabinoids in it. Other substances such as residues from pesticides or processing compounds will be revealed by testing. — riding the D8 coattails.
Producers will have different results because they use different solvents and acids. They may also use different cleaning solutions.
